Top Graphic Design Trends, Top Web Design Trends, Top Visual Trends…In 2016, Illustration is in!
Among the lists of trends for 2016 in the world of visual arts, you’ll find: tiny animations, a focus on interactions, beautiful typography, paper and pencil, motion graphics, color and 3D. And across each category, Illustration makes its grand appearance.
Illustration engages users in a way that is personal and relatable. Photos are no longer able to pull this off quite so well. And really, stick images in illustration aren’t either. This year marketing is all about embracing the customers’ experience and tailoring your message to their needs and interests. Now, more than ever this message needs to be custom! Illustration is about as custom as it gets.
We recently had the privilege of working with a client on a custom illustration for her event logo. Lori Childress, Vice President of Sales & Operations at Brightstarcare Franchising, is planning an event in the Spring called “Music Memories & Manhattans.” Her vision is to host a special evening for those with dementia and their loved ones. When she shared her ideas we knew it needed to be something unique, an illustration that came to life on the page, one that would speak to the atmosphere of the event she envisioned. This “whimsical” figure to the left expresses the emotion and enthusiasm Lori was looking for in her promotional materials!
We have found amazing ways to use technology to help us create art. But we may be stepping away from our computers throughout the day when what we really need to get our hands on is good ole’ fashioned pencil and paper. How many great ideas have started on a napkin? When we meet with a client, many ideas are exchanged through quick and simple scribbles, that come alive in the final product.
What specifically will we enjoy seeing more of in the world of Illustration this year?
Infographics, Color, Flat Design, Overhead Perspectives, and Merging Mediums.
It will be fun to see how these trend predictions unfold.
We hope that this year you find what fits you perfectly, that you resist the push to squeeze a great idea into a preexisting image, and that you let custom illustrations share your message with the world!
